The Tax Season is already here and it’s time to start getting your tax documents in order. But what documents do you need to bring to your tax return appointment? Depending on your tax position, you may need to provide your Accountant with multiple files. To help you save time, money and hassle, we have put together a quick document checklist for your 2017 Tax Return Dingley.

Tax Return Document Checklist

The following details pertain to the tax period of the 1st July 2016 to the 30th June 2017.

Please ensure to seek professional advice from your Accountant.

1. Income / Revenue Streams

  • Group certificate/s ( given by your employer)
  • Details of lump sum payments and or termination benefits received
  • Details of interest received from banks and other institutions
  • Details of dividends received from investments made. Including shares and businesses
  • Rental income received from investment properties (Agent statement)
  • Capital gains from shares and sale of investment properties
  • Income received on your personal ABN
  • Any other income. Including foreign income and businesses

2. Expenses/ Allowable Deductions

  • Motor Vehicle expenses
  • Uniforms and work-related clothing expenses. Including laundry expenses
  • Business/work travel expenses
  • Details of office work done from home, Telephone and internet usage
  • Insurance – Income protection & Health
  • Payments to approved charities
  • Any other work-related expenses. Have it ready even in doubt we will assess if deductible

3. Other details

Don’t forget the essentials – be sure to bring your personal details.

  • Tax File Number and ABN
  • Your contact details, including residential address, phone number and email
  • Your previous Notice of Assessment sent by ATO (if available)
  • A copy of your last tax return (if available)
  • The nature of job or profession
  • If you have a spouse, you may need to provide their income with TFN details
  • Your bank details, so you can receive your refund!

This list may look long, but it is not exhaustive. There are many other tax documents you may need to bring depending on your income streams.
